Chiesa di S. Maria Forisportam (o S. Maria Bianca)

Entering from the nineteenth-century Porta Elisa you happen to be in Via Elisa (named after the Princess Elisa Baciocchi), which leads into the medieval city through the tourist gate of Saints Gervasio and Protasio, built in the thirteenth century.

Domus Romana

During the 2010 renovations of the basements of Palazzo Orsucci (16th century) in the centre of Lucca, the remains of the Roman house "House of the Child on a Dolphin" came to light.

San Cristoforo Church

The Church of St. Christopher is located in Via Fillungo, the main street of the old part of the town of Lucca.


The Church of San Romano is located in Piazza Romano. It is part of the oldest and most authoritative Dominican convent in Lucca: the convent of San Romano.

Santuario di Santa Gemma

The Shrine and Monastery dedicated to St. Gemma Galgani is located just outside the walls of Lucca, near the historical centre: it is the place where she is buried, after dying of tuberculosis on 11 April 1903. It still houses the community of Passionist Nuns.
